Testimony from Mr. Chinh Hoang, a member of our senior group
As you knew, almost all of the Vietnamese people living in the USA were the victims of a Communist Regime full of injustice, brutality and inhumanity. Luckily they were saved and protected by the American whose nature was generous, charitable and compassionate.Read more.
Here is a living example. Before the fall of the Republic Democratic of South Viet Nam in April 1975, I was an officer in the Air Force. To retaliate against me, the Communist put me in prison for 12 years. The day I was released , my family was collapsed completely. My wife had another man, my children looked at me as a stranger. I was in a desperate situation. Fortunately, in 1994, the US Government granted me political asylum. But , as soon as I stepped into this country, the first thing I had to do was to find a job, so that, I could bring up my family and support my children's education. I didn't have time to learn English. This was a big loss for me and I knew that all other Asian refugees had the same circumstance as mine. It was very difficult for us to adapt ourselves into this society without English.
Knowing our trouble and our anxiety, Southeast Asian Coalition was opened to help Asian refugees with a little English solve all their concerning matters such as from contacting with various government and business offices to preserving their own culture so that they could live a happy and comfortable life. Moreover, recently SEAC hosted a TV program named the Voice of Asian Americans in Worcester on channel 13 to give Asian people a lot of news which are very helpful to their understanding and their knowledge especially during this election season.
I am very grateful to SEAC, for me, it is considered as a bridge for the transition from a refugee to a citizen of America.
I thank you all for listening.
May God bless all of you and America abundantly.
