Our New Neighbors, Refugees from Haiti, Need Our Help!

Our team from the Southeast Asian Coalition (SEACMA) brought over 10 bags of clothing containing hundreds of pants and shoes and more than 1,000 shirts for Haitian families temporarily placed in a hotel nearby. Of course, we included Ramen Noodles as it was a staple for many of us when we first arrived here as immigrants and refugees from Southeast Asia.

I was asked recently, “Why does the Southeast Asian Coalition want to help Haitian Refugees?”  I am honestly not sure how to answer that question. I only know one thing, that we have new neighbors and they have survived a treacherous journey. Most have experienced unimaginable trauma and have suffered great loss. Our new neighbors NEED our HELP.

So, if you speak Haitian Creole and would like to donate time, that would be extremely helpful. If you have children’s diapers, there is a huge need. If you have sneakers and shoes, that would be a great help. If you would like to donate money, that’s even better.

MA has become the main gateway for many Southeast Asian immigrants, answering questions regarding access to education, healthcare, careers, entrepreneurship, tax and voting information along with providing opportunities such as civic engagement and citizenship to all who stop by. All of which help our clients to become self-sustaining and thriving contributors to our community.
