SEACMA and the Sun Lion Dance Team Honored at the State House!
5/22/25- At the grand marble halls of the Massachusetts State House, tradition met youthful energy as the Lion Dancers from SEACMA—middle and high school students from Worcester—brought their vibrant spirit and thunderous drums straight to the heart of state government. These young performers, proudly representing their Southeast roots, captivated everyone with their precise footwork, synchronized moves, and the timeless magic of lion dance—all to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month
And of course, no youth-led celebration is complete without a bit of mischief. Just as we were lining up for a photo, one of the kids slipped behind th Governor and flashed the classic rabbit ears. That might’ve ended our chances of getting invited back, but honestly, it was hard not to laugh. It was a perfect, imperfect moment—brimming with joy, playfulness, and the irrepressible spirit of youth.
They didn’t just perform—they roared.

What a blessing to be able to spend the first day of Lunar New Year with our community, our family!
The Southeast Asian Coalition team and I are incredibly honored to have received the Governor’s Citation in recognition of our work in “advancing equity, opportunity and justice” for underserved communities, especially immigrants and refugees, in Central MA.
We are deeply #GRATEFUL to the Governor and her team for this wonderful recognition. We are #PROUD to be among so many amazing #AANHPI leaders, supporters and friends.
Thank you to all who came out to our 2024 asian festival! enjoy some highlights below!
We wish you and your family a happy and prosperous New Year!
Our New Neighbors, Refugees from Haiti, Need Our Help!
Our team from the Southeast Asian Coalition (SEACMA) brought over 10 bags of clothing containing hundreds of pants and shoes and more than 1,000 shirts for Haitian families temporarily placed in a hotel nearby. Of course, we included Ramen Noodles as it was a staple for many of us when we first arrived here as immigrants and refugees from Southeast Asia.
I was asked recently, “Why does the Southeast Asian Coalition want to help Haitian Refugees?” I am honestly not sure how to answer that question. I only know one thing, that we have new neighbors and they have survived a treacherous journey. Most have experienced unimaginable trauma and have suffered great loss. Our new neighbors NEED our HELP.
So, if you speak Haitian Creole and would like to donate time, that would be extremely helpful. If you have children’s diapers, there is a huge need. If you have sneakers and shoes, that would be a great help. If you would like to donate money, that’s even better.
