6/29/2011 - Asian Festival 2011 updates and thank yous!

An estimation of over three thousand people participated in this year's celebration, volunteers and guests included. A record number of 12 different Asian communities (Bhutanese, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Korean, Japanese, Laotian, Nepalese, Thai and Vietnamese) were able to showcase their unique cultures to the Greater Worcester Community at the event. There was an abundance of absolutely stunning costumes, marvelous music, and delicious food from each culture.

The venue also gave almost 300 volunteers, many of whom were youths, a chance to give back to their communities through traditional dances and talent shows. To continue to promote such a commitment to community service as well as higher education, part of your donation was used to grant four scholarships to Asian youths and an award to outstanding Youth Effect members. The George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation and Mekong International Supermarket were both recognized for their generosity, support and years of service to the whole community at large. All this and many more accomplishments were possible only through your support.

Asian Festival 2011 Scholarship winners were Bichtram Nguyen from Worcester Technical High School, Donna Nguyen from South High Community High School, Yasutoshi Nakamura from Leicester High School and Loan Ngoc Chau also from Worcester Technical High School. Each winner received a small cash award to help cover their costs for college. The Asian Festival Scholarship is awarded each year to Asian American High School Graduates who intend to attend college. We also reserve one award for a member of our Youth Effect program. This year Thuong Nguyen who will be a sophomore at Assumption college received a scholarship to assist her in continuing her education.

Congratulations to all of our scholarhsip winners!!
